Ebenso Anwendung finden Alkohole in: Lacken und Farben, Polymeradditiven sowie in Schmier-, Lösungs- und Desinfektionsmitteln. Unsere Alkohole entstehen aus der Reaktion von Synthesegas, einem Gemisch aus Kohlenmonoxid und Wasserstoff, mit einem Olefin und anschließender Hydrierung.
Zu den wichtigsten kommerziell verwendeten Oxo-Alkoholen gehören 2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH), n-Propanol, n-Butanol, Isobutanol, Isononanol und Isononylalkohol.
